Our keelboats enjoy weekly club-only races from spring until fall.

Crew Opportunities

Members without boats may reach out to captains for chances to crew and participate in races. 

Regattas

There are larger regattas four times a year, concluding with the famous Burlington Island Race.

  • Labor Day Regatta - September 4th, 2021 (Open)
  • Burlington Island Race - October 23, 2021 (RDCC Only)

Club Saturday Racing from May 22 until October 16 (except on Regatta Days)

Warning signal for all races is at 10am unless otherwise noted. "Captain Meeting" information will go out electronically. 
Regatta Fees will be listed in the Event Announcement

We follow US Sailing's The Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024

Handicap

Mixed Keelboat regattas follow Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF)


Mixed Dinghies regattas follow Portsmouth Yardstick (PY)


Saturday Races are decided by the Race Committee and Racing Fleet

Registration
For the 4 regattas (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Burlington Island Race) boats must be registered, boat handicaps recorded and race fees paid prior to the Captain's meeting. Race fees will be posted in the regatta information on the Events page. Captain's Meeting and start times will be posted in the event annoucements.

The Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day regattas are open to public. The Burlington Island Race is RDCC club captains only. Guests may crew. For information, please reach out to the Rear Commodore at rearcommodore@reddragoncanoeclub.org.

Saturday morning races are closed to RDCC captains only.  Guests may crew. Registration is not needed for Saturday Races that are not the four regattas mentioned above.
Courses
Here are some of the typical courses for our club:
Starts
We start with a 5,4,1 sequence:

3 HORN BLASTS - Warning
1 HORN BLAST  - 5 minutes to start
1 HORN BLAST  - 4 minutes to start
1 HORN BLAST - 1 minute to start
1 HORN BLAST - START

Most Saturday races we aim for the warning blasts to be at 10am. This is subject to change.
