Join us for a free lecture “Why We Walk” at the Historic Shipman Mansion at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13. Guests who would like a docent-guided tour of the mansion should arrive by 6:00 PM.
This presentation will be made by Deborah Richardson Price who serves as the Executive Director and President of the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County.
The talk is inspired by the mission of the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County. It is an invitation to take an iconic walk-through historical moment in time, moments that create a bridge enabling listeners to cross into insight and understanding, if only for a moment. It is a walk shaped by reflections and awareness of his stories, her stories, and their stories, stories that give voice to the unknown, the unarchived, and the truths that history has too often silenced.
This journey asks us to “walk with purpose.” Through themes of injustice, freedom, identity, and voice, it challenges assumptions and opens pathways to empathy, courage, and deeper understanding. Each historical timeline becomes a window into lived experience, reminding us that storytelling is not only remembrance—it is an act of liberation.
Light refreshments will be available during the event. Admission is free, though donations are gratefully accepted and directly support the ongoing restoration of the Historic Shipman Mansion. Recent restoration efforts have included a full exterior repainting and significant wood-repair work, and community contributions help sustain these improvements.
